I dont know about that. Yes it makes it better in ways, but it also complicates it more in the comparisons of alternative characters... I find that most people new to a site would rather start out simple than complex, unless your arrogant or confident, or insane, like me...
I wanted the challenge, as quoted before;

Even with the extra power, your still up against serious ranged attacks that either you dodge, or you get hit with. If you cant rush em and pin em, your dead. So you have to be able to maneuver well within areas, as well as see the layout of the area of battle that you are in at that moment, to utilize any leverage you can.
Its a lot more than "Im a Cat! Rawr! I calw you!" Because the next guy could go "Im a wizard. Magic Missile." and your dead. (sorry for the dnd ref, but i had to, lol)
Not that im saying all the other classes are easy, believe me, ive taken a look at them, and alchemist would drive me insane. And MT, same thing. They each ahve their ups and downs, but most are ok against range... they have some kind of defences against it. SS only defense against range (unless you have a nifty special) is to bull rush them in the face so there are no ranges.
