(Really sorry about the delay. Lost internet a few days ago and forgot about this once I got it back. But I'm back now)

The sun was a giant ball of fiery misery in the cloudless sky. It was at least a hundred degrees in the sun and not much cooler in the shade. Well, not much cooler for most people in the shade. Rime was chilling under the shade of the only palm frond umbrella in sight while he waited for the ferry to come by. He had been forced to use the seldom used ferry dock on the far side of the island due to his crimes. It was too likely that the priests of Ahkkaryp would be able to find him if he stayed near populated areas.

So why wait in misery if he didn't have to? He had stolen the Heart of Ahkkaryp and he might as well use it now that it had fused itself to him. By focusing his simple seal magics into the surrounding area, Rime was able to cool off the shade around him without turning the entire shadow into an ice cube. It was a mere sixty five degrees in the shadows around him. To some one like Rime, who had grown up in the blazing heat of his home island, it was almost frigid. It may be lowering his body temperature a bit below normal but it was well worth it.

With a heavily alcoholic beverage held in his frosty right hand, Rime felt like a king. And to make it even better, he had turned all the chairs around him in the shade upside down and buried them partly in the sand. The very few people who had visited the ferry dock had gotten deathly stares and some very suggestive and foul language if they had so much as thought about moving into the shade next to him. It was a position in life he could get use to. The vast expanse of hot, sandy beaches was his domain and the wooden dock was his gateway to a better future.

Tyzrk had considered relieving herself of the extreme heat, but thought against it for what had happened the last time. Should the very welcoming local inn not have been so expensive, she would have waited in there and extra day due to the heatwave. But as it was, the elf found her way towards the river. Thinking of sticking a foot or two into the water would have been nice had it not been for the muck and algae that had formed near the water. Tyzrk would have preferred keeping cool under the trees of the forest over water any day, especially water that seemed to flaunt such a greenish tone.

Looking over to her left, Tyzrk had found her stroke of luck. A rather large, leafy tree had stood, proud and tall just a few feet off the path towards the pier. Majestically just under the shining sun from her point of view, Tyzrk made her way towards the long-awaited shade. She raised her hand over her eyes, squinting a bit through her strands of mahogany. Xhercfa the forest sprite floated rather slowly along with the elf, matching her walking speed. The glowing green fairy-like being, less affected by the heat, floated about waist-height, surveying the area. When she had noticed a strange something arranged under the tree leaves, she tried to quickly warn Tyzrk, who was already too close.

Almost placing her foot into the shade, Tyzrk finally noticed an elf already occupying the area. He seemed to have noticed her as well. "Oh!" she let out, startled, "Sorry, didn't see you there. Sun's been blinding me.." She took an awkward step back, still eying the area of shade the man was occupying with a quite bothered desire.

"Oi, you twit. Get out of my shade."

Rime really wasn't fond of this new comer already. She was completely oblivious to her surroundings to start. Some one that ignorant of their surroundings would have been an easy mark for Rime back when he was still just a street urchin. And her clothes were obviously not of the native island wear that, well, natives to the island wore. Leather armor in tropical weather just screamed way too hot. And Rime wasn't going to make it any more comfortable for her.

As he watched her approach, he dropped the area of cold that he had been holding in the shade. A bead of sweat instantly appeared on his brow. Even an islander born and raised such as himself didn't like the heat. His collection of empty and nearly empty glasses on the table next to him start to perspire as well. He really wanted this main lander to bugger off so that he could continue his wait in the cold.

"Ferry isn't going to be here for another few hours. You might as well just take a hike for a while. Go see all that touristy stuff."

A bead of oil trailed down her bang until it made contact directly with her eye. Quickly rubbing it with her sleeve, she tried to very slowly inch her way into the shade. "Ain't waitin' for no ferry," Tyzrk said, not directly looking at him, "and a hike sounds like suicide right now." Trying to look completely uninterested in how hard the man just adjacent to her must have been raging, she kept her eyes looking towards the water, though trying not to make any sort of indirect eye contact with the sun through the river's reflection. With almost half of her body in the shade, she tried to stay aware of any movements the man would make. It could have just been her mixed judgment of heat at the time, but the elf could have sworn that it felt unnaturally chilly in the shade for a split second. If only it had stayed that way, for now that Tyzrk had that expectation of the shade, it just didn't feel as satisfying anymore. But, anything to beat the heat, right?

Xhercfa, on the other hand, didn't care for the heat, or the shade, and was worried about how stupidly Tyzrk was trying to push for some cool air. She tried her best to stay out of the man's view, with Tyzrk's body between them. And so they stood idle, waiting for the other elf to claim his territory. Both of them knew how to read people - they knew his patience would definitely run out soon, just like the gold in Tyzrk's wallet, undermining the man's 'tourism' idea. Tyzrk would have to complain to her little green friend to never to make them go out of the forest in such weather again later, though she knew Xhercfa would let that complaint be heard in vain.

"Well if you 'ain't waitin' for no ferry', keep moving along then. And don't hike then, crawl for all I care. This shade's all taken."

Rime's patience was really starting to wear thin. Most people really weren't this thick. There was more shade not twenty steps away and everyone else was willing to take those few extra steps than deal with an ass like Rime was being. Confrontation was usually something that people didn't like and Rime liked using that to his advantage. It worked when you were hustling people for protection money and it worked when you wanted people to stay away from you. Well, it usually worked.

Angrily slurping the last of his drink, Rime snapped out his right hand and whipped his glass into the sand just before the woman's feet. The glassware burrowed itself into the sand half way up as a spray of sand went towards the girl's shins. Maybe a show of unnecessary drunkenness and aggression would do the trick. Rime was already starting to get a little angry that he was starting to warm up again. He stole the god damn crystal so that he could escape this unforgiving heat. He sure as hell wasn't going to let this twerp be his downfall.

The heat wave of which a fire mage could not equal in its grevience and power lingered in the summer air. "Its fine~!" she told him in a 'don't worry' sort of tone, "There's plenty of shade here.." She sighed as she scanned the area a glance. Trying to move more into the shade, she lifted her arm to once more wipe her forehead. The moment her eyes were unaware, something had struck the sand just next to her feet. Her ears twitched, her body shook violently as she defensively squirmed backwards, feeling something cold and strong with her foot. "A sword!!" her thoughts flashed. As the sand touched her pantleg, still not comfortably done wiping sweat from her eyes, "Now!" was emitted from her lips, not given the time to see anything herself.

From what was most likely out of the opposing elf's view, a green, glowing sprite flew from behind Tyzrk, an ominous, second, glowing yellow sphere forming in front of her. On response to Tyzrk's words and strange, defensive steps, Xhercfa advanced, and a holy manifestation could almost be seen in form of holy, magical energy. As Tyzrk quickly rubbed her eyes dry of sweat, Xhercfa let forth a beam of justice and destruction towards the opponent. As she let her ray of havoc loose, Xhercfa looked for any sign of danger, only to come to an idle elf and a freaking Tyzrk.

As Tyzrk heard Xhercfa's attack go off, she finally looked forward with adjusting eyes. What she had felt at her feet was not steel of a sword, but rather... glass of a bottle. Her breath escaped her as she realized she had a murder charge on her hands. Unless the man was wary and strong, in which case the murder may lie on either one of their hands. Should he not be pushed past the point of anger from which there was no return, she would try to blame the heatwave, and her grumpiness at the turn of the weather.

(Shining Ray: 1x more use)
