Alright, here we go. Have fun, follow the rules, and above all remember... Sarkasmos watches all. I've kept this post short - training battles usually aren't as long-winded as a real battle, but if you want to write more feel free to get those creative juices flowing and I will match you.

Quote:
-Battles are fought in turns, you post after a response.
-Fighting happens in "real time"; meaning you can, if you wish, go back in time a little to describe actions and things you do before any attack the opposition lands (within reasonability).
-Be as descriptive as you can. More information makes for better battles.
-Do not ever control your opponent's character (or pets) in any way.
-Characters are, typically, allowed two actions per post: One defensive action and one offensive action. Regardless of whether you were attacked or not, you may only attack once per post.
-You can only use 1 special/spell per turn (you can use multiple skills per turn, but only 1 special per turn). Specials that have an effect on your opponent count as your one offensive action.
-Try to be fair in both your attacks as well as your dodges. Getting hit every now and then is not the end of the world, and deepens your character. (And makes battles more interesting)
-A minimum of 2 paragraphs (though more are desirable!)
-No "unblockable" attacks. There's always something, somewhere that can happen.
-Be creative, use the world around you to your advantage.
-Use a spell checker, or a program that helps with punctuation. It can't hurt...and can generally help your posts become more readable. Reading your post before you submit it can take care of accidental misspellings as well.
-Have fun! Battles are supposed to be enjoyable. If you don't like it, something is wrong.

Melinda stood impatiently tapping her foot on the ground, leaning against a building down a back alley in Fedrellan. Though it was one of the larger cities, she was currently in the poorer section of down where none of the roads were paved with stone, let alone the back alley. There was a general haze of dust all over this sector, and it annoyed Melinda. Unfortunately she needed the money they were paying her to be here, so here she must be, and here she must wait. It was quite the blow to her ego to take on mercenary work, but it was still preferable to starving to death.

Her foot kept right on tapping as she waited for this auspicious 'trainee' to arrive. And who had decided on meeting in this pathetic back alley, anyways? It didn't make sense to her. Shouldn't the new people be treated to some grandiose mountain view or maybe something in the courtyard of a palace? That would certainly make a much better first impression, she was pretty sure. Then again, maybe the mercenary guild wasn't the one 'training' this being, and had just gotten the order from their higher-ups as well. She figured time would tell, especially if the trainee turned out to not be the mercenary type. Maybe it would be some noble who was just pissed at having to come down to this dirty place - she smirked at the thought. Whatever happened, she would have to have some fun with it. After all, the job had only explained the end goal, not the journey.

(Hey, thanks for taking me on! Since you didn't really specify a time of day, I'm going to take the liberty of choosing it myself. And just curious, what does "Broken Movement" on your Uncanny Agility skill mean?)

Just around this corner…

He was new to the city; the bustling crowds and teeming market squares never suited his solemn character well – even at night a beggar, thief, or some other shady persona seemed perched on every street corner. Valithys was unfamiliar with the city as a whole – he had only been within its walls for a few hours, and already he was drowning beneath the suffocating presence of the buildings on all sides. His sense of direction was muddled even further by the apparent complexity of this particular quarter of the city, and the dim evening light and dusty film drifting in the air only served to make matters worse.

He wasn’t even sure as to why he was here – all this silly training business to “prove” himself to some guild of mercenaries. He didn’t need anyone to confirm his power; he already knew what he was capable of.

Ah, a dimly-lit back alley… well-suited for the operations of a covert band of mercenaries, no doubt. This must be the place.

After slipping around the corner into the narrow alley, Valithys spotted a slender figure standing near the far end, leaning her back against the faded brick wall. Placing his small, green hand gently on the cold metal hilt of the dagger sheathed at his hip, he cautiously stepped forward, keeping his eyes locked on the shady female figure before him. He made his voice as loud as possible to compensate for the distance:

“Who do you work for?”

(That's what the rogue class skill is called)

“Who do you work for?”

Melinda looked down the alley at the short being who had appeared at the other end, her eyebrows raising as she noted that it seemed to be a goblin. She let out a sigh, shrugging herself off the wall and taking a few steps away from it before turning to face the goblin fully. She took in all she could about him before her hand reached up and closed upon the hilt of the katana strapped to her back. She slowly drew it out inch by inch as she watched him as closely as she could in the darkness.

The Reaper. I'm here for your life.

Okay, so it was an old joke and more then likely a groaner, but she thought it was suiting for the occasion. With a sudden burst of speed [Speed boost] she sprinted forward, closing the distance between them in a few short seconds. She made to run right past him on his right, sword slashing across at his midsection as she passed - well, since he was a goblin, a bit higher then his midsection really. She might as well go ahead and get the party started. She was fairly certain the goblin was the one she was supposed to train - who else would be in this alley, anyways?

She pushed off of the wall, and slowly began to draw her weapon – a katana by the looks of it. Valithys, now almost certain of a fight, drew his dagger as well, wielding it low and to his side. His muscles tensed, poising for the action.

“The Reaper. I'm here for your life.”

As he began to ponder the meaning of the words she had spoken, he noticed her movement, and immediately forsaking any other thought, he began to search his mind for a defensive spell. Before he had even picked the name, she was halfway between them, and he only had time to lift his dagger in a feeble attempt to parry the swift blow that followed. He was surprised by the sudden swing, and the small blade was wrenched from his unprepared little fingers, landing with a small clanging noise near the wall to his right, a few feet behind him.

Regaining his balance, he turned to face her.

Damn, she’s fast

Forgetting any thought of victory, his only goal now was to keep her nimble blade at a distance. He raised a small rock the size of his head from the dirt floor, leaving a bowl-shaped impression at his feet, and hurled the boulder at the human before him, aiming right at the center of her chest [Rock Slam].

If this doesn't at least slow her down, I'm doomed.

Melinda grinned as her strike connected and succeeded in ripping the dagger from the poor goblin's grasp. It made her confident - likely overly so. She came to a stop and slowly turned, a gloating look in her eyes as she came to face him again. She was going to kill the Goblin. That would certainly let the people who had hired her know exactly how strong he was, wouldn't it? She brought her sword out to the side, then blinked in surprise as the ground lifted up and shot towards her. She barely got her arms back in front of her chest in time, taking the hit and stumbling back a few steps. She let out a grunt of pain as it hit her as well, likely bruising her some as well.

She narrowed her eyes as she stared at the Goblin. He must be some kind of mage! She slowly circled around him, giving him a fair amount more respect now that she knew that he at least wasn't useless, her sword once again held out to her right, both hands on the hilt.

Seems you've got a trick or two up your sleeves. Well, you're not the only one.

Declaring ones tricks wasn't usually the best way to make a surprise attack, but she didn't much care at the moment. Her left hand moved up and detached half of the guard of her sword, flicking towards the Goblin and letting it fly. She threw it in such a way that a few feet after the goblin it would actually fly up and back towards herself, unless it came into contact with something along the way. [Dragon Boomerang]

“Seems you've got a trick or two up your sleeves. Well, you're not the only one.”

A glint in the waning light – the only warning of the sharp edge slicing into his left shoulder, gliding effortlessly past him. Wincing in pain, Valithys fell to his knees, a reactionary motion barely saving him from the sting of the returning blade on his right whirring past his ear. The fresh wound stung in the dusty air. Careful not to graze the fabric of his torn robe against the gash, he staggered to his feet, keeping his eyes fixed upon the girl before him.

“How about this?”

Pushing the pain to the back of his mind, he focused the strength within him, and with a swift motion of his arms, the earth beneath him began to crack [Earth Wave]. A surge of energy burst forth from the small crevice: the crack lengthened, swiftly closing the gap between the combatants, and the wave of magic erupted outwards as it reached the human’s feet.
