Welcome to Darkness Incarnate. We hope your stay here is pleasant. Do try not to die :P
Feel free to enter the battle in any manner you feel fitting.
------------------
Quote:
-Battles are fought in turns, you post after a respond.
-Fighting happens in "real time" meaning you can if you wish go back in time a little to describe actions and things you do before any attack of the opposition lands (within reasonability)
-Be as descriptive as you can. More information makes for better battles.
-Do not ever control your opponent's character (or pets) in any way.
-Characters are, typically, allowed two actions per post: One defensive action and one offensive action. Regardless of whether you were attacked or not, you may only attack once per post.
-You can only use 1 special/spell per turn (you can use multiple skills per turn, and 1 special and multiple skills per turn though). Specials that have an effect on your opponent count towards your one offensive action.
-Try to be fair in both your attacks as well as your dodges. Getting hit every now and then is not the end of the world, and deepens your character.
-A minimum of 2 paragraphs (though more are desirable!)
-No 'Unblockable' attacks. There's always something, somewhere that can happen.
-Be creative, use the world around you to your advantage!
-Use a spell checker, or a program that helps with puncuation. It can't hurt... and can generally help your posts more readable.
-Have fun!!! Battles are supposed to be enjoyable. If don't like it, something is wrong.

------------------
A flash and the sharp smell of ozone heralded Infineon back to the training fields of the Gods once more. Whereas before, the training fields had been in the form of a desert, they now resembled a lush jungle with trees growing to great heights around the place that Infineon had arrived. Infineon had been deposited on a roughly circular island in the middle of a slow river, the shallow bed of the river barely distorted by the crawling waters of the river. On the island itself, there were some small shrubs and plants, but nothing that would obscure the view in any particular manner. Around the island, however, the trees grew thick and strong from the ground, the canopy extending over the river to reduce the light level in the area to an ambient glow; slanted beams of light streaming from the treetops above to illuminate small patches of the undergrowth.

On both of the shores of the river, there was a small strip of land which separated the thick jungle from the river that was clear of any trees, but was still covered in shrubs. This prevalence of small plants meant that it would be almost impossible for anyone to sneak around on the floor of the forest, since the rustling of the displaced branches would be able to be heard for a great distance due to the disturbing lack of animal chatter. Because of the relative safety of Infineon’s position, he simply materialized Artemis and then sat down to wait the inevitable arrival of his trainee.

Eventually, after a period of time that both seemed long but seemed to pass quickly, Infineon heard the rustling of an approaching person in the distance, obviously coming towards the place where Infineon waited. Infineon almost smiled at the planned coincidence of the meeting, and prepared to test this newcomer to the world of Darkness Incarnate.
----------------------
Levitas felt both totally at home, and also strangely out of place among the great trees. She felt at home because the thick forestation reminded her of the place of her birth, the same place where Infineon had found her. But nonetheless the lack of any bird calls or movement in the undergrowth made her uneasy, and for the time that Infineon waited, Levitas was restless. When Levitas finally heard the movement in the distance and saw Infineon rouse slightly from his meditations, she took to the skies; soundless aside from the rustling of her wings. Once airborne, she began to fly circles in the arch between the two sides of the riverbank caused by the gap in the trees. From there she would be able to see the new trainee before they could pose a threat to her master.
-----------------------
Infineon is sitting in the middle of the small island as described
Levitas is circling, and would be relatively easy to spot to someone who was looking for her
Stress: 0 (1/4)

Open lids… but absent. He was laying in the ground, on his shoulder, as if cast amongst the autumn wet leaves. Crowded with them, the floor glistened sporadically: there, where the spaced rays of sun stroke breaking trough the high branches. A swift agreeable breeze blew north with the warm feeling of the southern fields. Embedded in the remembrance of other times… of a distant life.
Open lids… no blinking. His beard shivered in the wind. Not awake neither sleeping, his body reminded that of the dead but his heart could not surrendered. Not just yet.
Not even dead ones rest on a side. Thus it would seem improper for a living man, for those who do not lay on their backs are usually condemned to dream of wicked images of hollow purpose.

“Wake up, daddy…!” sounded the voice of Balk, aggravated. Gomonder’s whining came from the background like the echoes of a faraway storm.

He blinked once. But could not get a glimpse of the forest for a thick purple opacity encompassed his sight. Like smoke, twitching in whirlpools, it embraced everything.
A tear flowed from his upper eye as an unreal heat smit his face. Feeling the punishment of the flames and unable to move, he cried.
He blinked twice, but he was not there. The purple mantle smothered all his efforts of coming back. His wife’s voice lectured him with a certain sadness.
“There’s no coming back, here, love”.
Suddenly he rolled over his back, brandishing his hand to the air as if trying to get away from something.

“Let go me!!” His deep growling voice shattered the surrounding silence spreading like poison in the well. Before he could notice the flapping wings rippling all over the place, his right knee was on the ground and his right foot plunged far behind him; his fist, grasping a scabbard he did not know it was even at hand.

His eyes were cold and the vision of the woods, although bright, was fuzzy; blurred in an inexistent fog. He pressed hard down his eyelids and rubbed them with the coat sleeve, alone with his forehead.
No more wings rattling around. No other sound. He conceded himself the time to heal his sight.
“Agah… is that you?” He sighed.
But the only response was the faint wind skimming the mantle of golden leaves.
After a few seconds, he tried and opened his eyes again. All seemed normal but the edges of his vision range showed slim strokes of a vanishing purple fume of sorts.
He rotated his neck to a side an then to the other, rapidly, with an uneasy haste. But he was always late… the billowy traces were always already disappearing.
He sighed as he shook his head.

It was a fine scabbard the one between his hands: black steel inlayed in golden filigree. Inside, the blade left him astonished. It was a type of curved sword with one cutting edge; too long to be swung one-handed, yet incredibly light compared to the claymore style, he was used to. And the blade itself was bright and neat, as he had seen no other.
He pushed it back in and admire for a little while the reddish handle wrap. Leather to be sure; he thought it should come handy.

There was a backpack near him. Suddenly, the only idea in his mind was that of drinking; his throat was dry as desert. There was a goatskin inside, but bloody empty.
So he glanced around feeling a bit of a thief, loaded the backpack on his shoulder and commenced his way through the forest in his search for water… not as if he could find a wellspring of anything more interesting.

About an hour later, he started hearing the unequivocal murmur of a decent stream. The ground got covered with small bushes that complicated the walk significantly, but there was nothing to be done about it, so slowing his pace and rising knees at every step, he followed his ear towards the water.

He was not a couple of trees away from the edge of the forest when he saw a dark figure standing on the surfaces of a little river.
He stopped without hesitating, leaning his shoulder on a robust trunk.

Wow! Really good first post! This training battle should be a mere formality with writing ability like that. Only bit of feedback will probably sound slightly hypocritical, but just work on making your posts flow better, ensuring that each idea flows neatly on from the last; it will just help with clarity for the reader.
------------------
Infineon stood as he heard the footsteps drawing close, and turned to face the direction of his approaching trainee, mentally preparing the spells he intended to use in the coming confrontation. As the footsteps finally stopped, Infineon could just see the silhouette of a man leaning against the trunk of a tree in the fringes of the wooded area. Infineon called out across the divide that separated the two warriors, addressing his trainee in the way he addressed all trainees.

“Greetings, trainee. I am Infineon, Avatar of Zoltan and I welcome to the training fields of the Gods. You have been sent here so that I may test your skill, and judge whether you are worthy to call yourself a member of this fair land. If you can meet my standards, then you will be transported from this arena to the nearest town, and from there go out into the world. Therefore, without further ado, let the training commence. Do not hold back!”

As Infineon finished speaking, he pointed Artemis at his opponent and cast [Mach Gust] through the enchanted voluge. As the mana flowed instantly through the staff, a ball of air coalesced around the head of the weapon, before hurling itself at its target a second later. The ball of air was aimed at Infineon’s trainee’s chest to maximise the chance of a hit. The purpose of the ball of air was not really to injure his trainee, but more to get him moving and on his feet, serving as a wakeup call that Infineon wasn’t kidding about this training battle.

As the spell shot off from the end of the staff, Infineon brought his second hand onto the haft of the staff, shifting into a defensive position as he awaited his first proper look at his trainee. From where he stood Infineon called out a challenge to his opponent;

“Let’s see what you’ve got!”
------------------
Infineon is in a defensive position on the island, maybe 30 yards from you.
Levitas is circling as before
Stress: 1 (2/4)
Mach Gust: 3/4 remain

This is an unusual thing to find, he thought. It took him a couple of seconds, but finally realized that the man -or the lady- was standing on a inexplicably rounded sort of island -and not floating on the surface-, right in the middle of that peaceful stream of water.
Before he could even think of the proper way of reacting, the figure spoke. And there were no more doubts about him: it was a he. The hood covered the most of his face in shadow, but the voice was ineludibly masculine.
He didn’t speak fast, actually, but the message was difficult enough to understand, so the warrior was kept unaware with such amount of information. His mind was still dull.
He started repeating all the speech for himself –which by the way seemed a bit learnt by heart-, in order to… wait! Suddenly, the skinny cloaked man made a menacing movement pointing at him from the distance, with that sort of ugly halberd. The strangest thing was that the air between them started to fluctuate, like with the heat of a flame; but no fire was there. It just… hit on his chest with an invisible magic fist.

Apparently, he had no intention of hurting him, otherwise the mage was about to have a nasty hard time trying to “train” him…
One step back, because of the unexpected piece of magic, he shook his head in astonishment and took him a little long to articulate a decent word.

“Arena? The gods? Training? Are you sure it is me you are looking for, good man?”

As the mysterious character either meant no real harm to him or just incapable of true damage, he felt confident enough to approach. In a glimpse, made by the unconscious surroundings verification, he spotted a bird in the sky; gliding. It was probably the last… long hours had passed since he had noticed any. It was circling above the little island in large easy turns, like making no efforts; maybe waiting.

When close enough, not a few meters form the riverside, studying the foot position of the mage, he said to him:
“What is it with the bird, by the way?”

He would have never engage in this kind of nonsense battle, but deep in his mind he believed it to be a dream or hallucination. Otherwise all this magic thing couldn’t be explained… and… what ever it was, he was to travel to a “town” after “matching his standards”, whatever that meant. In town, he would probably get the chance to get some answers.

“A training then? Shall I step in the circle?”

[Kitzaron is standing near the river facing Infineon.]

Apologies for the delay. In any case, your next post should have either an attack or a special weaved into it, along with any other actions you wish to take.
---------
The bolt of air flew straight and true from Artemis, shooting across the distance that separated trainer from trainee, before dissipating all its energy into the chest of its target. A target who seemed to pretty much ignore the fact that he just got punched by magic…

Shaking his head, Infineon’s trainee completely ignored the fact that he had been hit in the gut, and his only reaction was a single step backwards; more out of surprise than anything else. Continuing as before, Infineon’s trainee simply walked down the slope towards the river, while calling out to Infineon on the bank.

“Arena? The gods? Training? Are you sure it is me you are looking for, good man?”
“A training then? Shall I step in the circle?”

The man seemed puzzled, and also slightly bemused. It was clear to Infineon that his trainee was treating this whole situation as a kind of dream, and certainly didn’t believe this encounter to be real. Infineon sighed to himself; it was going to be a tedious battle. If Infineon were to truly test his opponent, it would have to be on a more serious footing, and the only way Infineon knew how to do that was to get close and personal with his opponent; leaving no time for idle chit-chat.

As his trainee reached the water’s edge, Infineon decided on his plan of attack, speaking easily across the relatively small gap that separated trainer from trainee.

“You might think this is a dream now, but if this is a dream, then it is a dream you shall not wake up from. From here, you can only go to sleep; you can never wake up…”

As Infineon finished, he instantly cast [Zephyr Cloak] on himself, increasing his already formidable speed to even more ridiculous levels. Infineon then closed the gap between the two men in the blink of an eye [Lightning Speed + Zephyr Cloak], the water between them barely slowing Infineon as his sheer speed hurled him through the slow river, leaving a brightly glowing blue trail behind him as he ran. As Infineon charged, he also lowered Artemis so that its blade trailed in the water, held horizontally downwards to Infineon’s right, so that it cut a neat path through the water.

When Infineon was about a yard away from his target, he turned his body slightly to the right and then heaved all of his strength and his momentum into a diagonally upward cut from Infineon’s right to left. However, as the blade was about to leave the water, Infineon had one more surprise in store for his trainee. While the attack looked relatively simple, Infineon had another trick up his sleeve; casting [Air Burst] from the blade of Artemis as it was about to reach the surface.

This spell meant that a large amount of high-pressure air jettisoned out of the blade of Artemis as it was about to leave the water, displacing a large amount of water directly at the target of the blade; Infineon’s trainee. The displaced water had little enough force behind it, barely enough to feel more than rain on the skin and clothes of its target, however, force was not its real purpose. The sudden, violent eruption of water towards the trainee might put him off guard for even a second, which would mean there would be a much higher likelihood of Artemis hitting home. It would also probably drench the trainee’s front unless he took drastic action.
-------------
Infineon is making a slash on a 45 degree angle upwards from your character’s bottom left as he is facing, towards his torso. The water can be assumed to be coming from the same direction.
Levitas continues to circle
Stress: 3 (3/4)
Zephyr Cloak: Dissipating in 3 posts, 0/1 remain
Air Burst: 1/2 remain
Mach Gust: 3/4 remain

“You might think this is a dream now, but if this is a dream, then it is a dream you shall not wake up from. From here, you can only go to sleep; you can never wake up…”

There was a trace of wisdom of sorts in his voice. He sounded not like an old-one, but nevertheless it was undeniable the presence of a profound knowledge… and maybe respect. He sounded like an elf… Could that be true? It had passed a long, long time since he heard words from the lips of one of them. But he shook his head again; it wasn’t possible. "Elves are shorter than that", he though.

After a blink, it all went crazy. Suddenly, he perceived a flash of an image that suggested that the mage was about to slash him from left to right. Eyes wide opened, focused on a distant and hidden horizon, the warrior sensed that the strike was to be upward [EXPERIENCE]. But was regrettable to late for a proper blockage. Somehow the mage managed to save the distance in no time. “Long blinking”, he said to himself, “caught off guard, old soldier; shame on you!”

As fast as he could, he bended his knees and leaned his head to his right in a despaired intent to shorten his height. The halberd passed by, ascending and slashing his left elbow, not without a minor hit.
A second later, he was struggling with himself, trying to avoid a facedown fall. He pivoted over his right foot, on the short run, to face his enemy, using the turn to unsheathe a beautiful sound of steel against steel.

The potent hum of his blade having chafed the inside of the scabbard was still echoing when he took the time to feel the wound. It was bleeding; although not as heavily as he thought it would. Judging by the pain it conferred, he estimated that it had probably been more important the thud than the cut itself.
A single fraction of a second would have been enough to make him lose his arm. He knew luck played a good part on the move, this time, and he could not rely on it to repeat the favor.
“Yes”, he sighed, “this is the pain of an exposed bone”. Some shatters of his past started to arise. “After all, engaging in battle may not be such a bad idea; it rescues remembrances, at least.”

The damaged arm, bended, held the scabbard parallel to the ground, in a defensive position, right in front of his, while the right hand secured a way-too-long handle, behind his back.
The sword was light enough, but he didn’t feel confident about swinging it one-handed. It was all a matter of giving it a go, he though. “Let’s put you to a test, fancy-looking-blade.”

He placed the thumb against the circular guard and joining his forearm to the whole handle, he snapped a sudden frontal thrust.
His left leg stretched to maintain the foot position in case of a necessary fast retreat; his right’s, bended to help him reach further and lower, for the man in front of him was a head shorter than him, or so.

Nice work reacting there, dodging but also taking a hit, well done. If your next post has a special then I’m just about ready to pass you, with a note that you should just try proofreading your posts just to make sure each paragraph makes sense.

Just one last thing which just irks me a bit is you didn’t describe the reaction your character had, having a load of water cannoned at their chest. Is your character soaked? Did he dodge the spray of water completely? I don’t know because you didn’t describe it in your post, so that’s just one more thing to work on in future!
-------------------
Artemis slashed swiftly upwards, flying from the river in a deadly, glittering arc. Just as swiftly however, Infineon’s trainee crouched and turned his body to the right, almost avoiding the blow but still taking an injury as Artemis cut open his elbow. The wake of the blade became spattered with blood as the swiftly moving slash threw off the blood it had drawn.

As Artemis reached the apex of its slash, Infineon brought arcing over so that the haft of the halberd stayed in front of him but the blade was now low to Infineon’s left. As it turned out, this was fortunate, for as Infineon’s trainee quickly recovered, he drew the sword that was at his waist, and stepped forwards into a low, forward thrust, similar in style to a fencer.

The attack, while well performed, was obvious even from when the warrior drew his sword, and Infineon was easily ready for the attack when it came. As the warrior stabbed at Infineon, Infineon brought Artemis around in a textbook parry, the inside edge of the staff pushing against the flat of the sword and guiding the blade past the outside of Infineon’s body.

Because of this action, Infineon now had the blade of Artemis raised in a position where he could take advantage of the vulnerable, extended position of his opponent. As Infineon was sure the blade would pass safely to his side, he channelled [Bolt Touch Prepared] into the blade of Artemis as he swung it down in the reverse slash from what he had used before. The blade swung down from left to right in a perfectly diagonal slash, aimed at the part of the back just below and behind the right shoulder of Infineon’s trainee [If the strike connects with flesh, Bolt Touch will cast].

The placement of Infineon’s strike meant that even if his trainee took a step back, the blade would still cut across his chest and deliver the power that coursed through the blade. In essence, if his trainee were to recover from his thrust and still dodge the blade of Artemis entirely, it would require either unnatural agility and foresight, or something completely unexpected…
----------------
Infineon is within arm’s reach of you after parrying your thrust. I have presumed that your character is right handed, and thus would have made the thrust with his right hand. Please correct me if this is not the case.

Stress: 1 (3 if Bolt Touch goes off) (4/4)

Zephyr Cloak: dissipating in 2 turns, 0/1 remain
Air Burst: 1/2 remain
Mach Gust: 3/4 remain
Bolt Touch: 1(2 if it doesn’t connect)/2 remain

The little man parried to his right, nice and swiftly, as if in a prepared dance it would have been.
“Bitten the bait, haven’t we?” the warrior celebrated in silence. “Never trust a magician to be a clever fighter”.

There was something that troubled him, though. The magician seemed more interested on attacking than otherwise: he would have expected him to parry with the blade of the halberd instead of using the staff. And that, he thought, might turn up to be a noticeably handicap for his plans.
The hooded figure held the blade, still in a proper position for a dangerous strike back, and the warrior knew he couldn’t trust on his own speed over his.

The small advantage obtained by transforming the first move into the preparation for the second [TECHNICALLITY], was not to be overlooked when standing before such a fast opponent.
But he learnt that he should use both hands if he wanted to become a real threat to him.
So, as his right arm retrieved the sword gracefully after getting deviated, without hesitating any longer, his left hand lost the scabbard carelessly and grabbed the handle, draining a small amount of water drops from the sleeve of the coat.
Now, both hands firmly grasping the haft close to his chest, with his torso twisted slightly over his hips, he decided on a frontal attack.

“Full attack, then. Be bold and fear not”, he said to himself. He gathered all his strength on both legs [EXERTION, weak x3] and from the crouching position he gained after the parry, he literally jumped forward, almost without separating his feet from the ground.

The idea was to cut the descending staff in an uprising curve of his sword, while leaning his body to his right, transforming the onslaught in a passing-by movement.
While he considered it to be foolish to try and step back, the only possible answer was to approach violently, hoping that his greatest effort would match his opponent’s preternatural speed.
It meant a huge verve, but the short distance made him believe in success.

[EXERTION] 2 left.

Well done, nice edit. It is clear you understand enough of the rules for me to pass you. Conclude with one last post and I’ll declare you passed.
----------
Infineon’s trainee moved far more swiftly than he had expected, drawing his sword back and regaining his stance in almost an instant. He was so fast to move in fact, that Artemis had only just begun its decent when its target made his attack.

As his trainee crouched down and bent his shoulder forwards, Infineon realized what the crafty man was trying to do. As his trainee leant to the right to begin a dash across towards Infineon’s left, his trainer was already prepared. In the short space of time between the trainee drew his sword back and when he charged, Infineon had changed the flight of Artemis so that from what was once an offensive strike, a defensive parry emerged.

As the sword of his trainee swung up and around, the staff of Artemis was once more there to parry, Infineon parrying with the centre of the staff to ensure that there was no way it would be able to sneak past his defences. Once the blade hit the staff, Infineon pushed forwards and away from him with both hands, straight back towards Infineon’s trainee. This shove using his trainee’s own sword was meant to either put him off balance, or at least make a follow-up attack nearly impossible with the sword.

As Infineon was about to capitalize on the odd position in which his trainee had placed himself, the air around him shimmered and then swallowed Infineon whole, depositing him back on the island where he had started. It was clear to Infineon that his God had deemed this man competent enough to hold his own in the world. Infineon smiled inside, he was inclined to agree with his god’s decision, judging by the ability he had shown in the fight.

“Congratulations trainee, you have been deemed fit to continue. May the blessings of Zoltan and the Pantheon go with you on whatever road you may travel. If you wish to seek me out, come to the Great Cathedral and mention you were trained by me; you will be well treated there if I am not present myself.”

“One last thing. Trying to walk out of this forest will do you no good, as it is impossible. To leave, simply picture the place you wish to go in your head and you will be transported there. Once more good luck, and I commend you on your display today.”

With that, Infineon turned once on the spot and was consumed by a sparkling sheen of energy, disappearing in the blink of an eye. High above him, Levitas did the same, transporting herself through space to follow Infineon.
------------------
Well done on being /almost/ done. Just wrap up this TB with one last RP post and you’ll have passed. Congratulations.

Infineon and Levitas have left the battlefield

The edge of the blade hit as intended but, unpredictably, besides its secant trajectory, it didn’t split the staff in two. That wooden bar had to be protected with a power unknown to the swordsman.
The unexpected block resulted in an unbalancing surprise. His body weight drove him through, but the sword remained behind, being pushed hard away by the self-appointed trainer, who seemed to repel the attack even with disdain.

Stepped on a low bush, tried to pivot over his heels again, and turned around in a glimpse almost losing balance, yet… the mage wasn’t there anymore.
The voice of his first Captain came back to him from afar with the distant echo of oblivion: “when the enemy is not at sight, we shall assume it is behind us”, he used to say.
Twisted his torso to face the island on the river and there he was, inexplicably still; as if he hadn’t have moved at all.
“Was it real?”, he yet again shook his head. Had it all have been a magic trick? But from the deep urge of his nerves the undeniable pain on his elbow emerged, claiming the whole thing to be nastily true.

He was talking to him. A vary talkative man, he though. Peacefully, not even agitated…
First he said something about asking for him at a Cathedral. It was very sudden and thus, too hard to get right. Then…

“One last thing. Trying to walk out of this forest will do you no good. To leave, simply picture the place you wish to go in your head and you will be transported there. Once more good luck, and I commend you on your display today”.

It was a good speech of gibberish to him. None of that made any sense. And then, just like that, he disappeared. A massive wave of astonishment crushed him, leaving him a cold sensation of having been scammed.
“What now? Close my eyes and vanish in thin air to be teleported wherever I wish?”.
He wondered if there was any chance to get back to his beloved wife, and lay his head on her lap… for good.

Woo! Congratulations and welcome to DI.
Just keep in mind that you should always check over your writing at least once before you post and you'll be fine; I'm sure that eventually it will become second nature.
