Musalis:
Drakol is in horrible danger, as are you all. One of you is not what they appear to be. I can not say any more in this letter for fear it is intercepted. If you wish to know more, meet me at the Mystone forest, you will know where. You are his only hope Musalis.
The Red Robed Man. RRM

P.S. Do not show this note to anyone. If you do you put all three of our lives in danger.

This was the message to be delivered to the skeletal priest. Written in red dye on a simple piece of parchment, and sealed in red wax baring the letters ‘RRM’. He was not sure if normal ink was sensitive to her magical sight, so he poured a small bit of his own blood into the mix. It had a thicker mana than the common man, thus allowing it to be red for sure. True, the thought of her bible crossed his mind, but he would not turn down the possibility that she could only read scrip from Ochre.

As the message was completed it was given to a raven to hold. His trusted scout and friend, Anastasius, had always been exceedingly smarter than a simple raven ought to be. He had always assumed some magical properties existed in his feathered friend but had simply adapted the policy of not asking questions. Why question that he had faith in his friend to not only understand who he was looking for, but to be able to identify them easily? He would find Musalis, and she most likely would guide Anastasius to him with her sweet song.

Anastasius had returned to the Red Robed Man, the letter no longer clasped in his beak. This showed that the message had been delivered, hopefully to the correct person and not to any other of Drakol’s companions. If one of them had gotten the note, perhaps their sense of decency and the big name on the back reading ‘Musalis’ would drive them to deliver the message without asking any questions. More likely though complications would rise that would hinder his plan.

This had all taken place over a day ago, leaving Musalis with plenty of time to walk to the forest. Anastasius was perched on the edge of the forest for safety. When he sees Musalis, he would grasp hold of her attention and lead her to his master. If she came with company, the raven would caw twice in warning. To which RRM would leave only a pre-made note that said; ‘I told you not to tell anybody, now his fate is sealed along with many others’.

RRM was currently meditating under a tree. His usual nature had to be suppressed at all costs if this trick was to work. Ever since the day he had stumbled upon Drakol and his mate Dahlia in the city, and so perfectly stepped upon his amulet, he had been fascinated with learning more about the man and ways to further annoy him from the shadows. His sources were more than reliable, and the wizardly display shown by the drow was more than enough to confirm the identity. Now all he needed to do was wait to spin his web of lies and deceit.

Tugged in her lightblue robe, Musalis smoothly ran towards the forest. She didn't often run, but this time it seemed appropriate. To get out without getting anyone suspicious hadn't been easy at all. Even though she could mask her emotion through the link people started asking questions when she did so. She had been lucky only to meet Boreas; the others would have asked more questions. And Musalis wasn't sure if she'd been able to answer them all.

But the important thing was that she now was here, and nothing had happened on her way. She had come alone, like the letter had asked of her. Even Cindy didn't know of this. Luckily, the bible was currently spending her days in the library. Musalis had no idea what she did there, and Cindy didn't tell. Bur for once that didn't bother Musalis; she praised herself lucky that the bible didn't pay close attention to what she was doing.

The long shadows of the forest loomed before her, and quickly covered her robe as she got closer to her goal. Once she had reached to forestborder, Musalis stopped. The forest was large, maybe even huge. It was folly to think that she'd be able to find someone in there; especially if she didn't even have an idea who she was looking for.

Looking around, she could see noone in sight. The forest stood dark against a sky lit in amazing colors by the last rays of sunlight. Yet Musalis held no attention for the beauty of the moment. She only knew that however she had been supposed to meet wasn't here, and she couldn't find him on her own.

Just about to turn and head back home, Musalis attention was caught by a raven. No, she corrected herself, the raven. She recognized it as the same who had delivered the letter to her earlier. Silently, she waited a while until she was sure, then followed it into the woods. She walked, carefully. The time for running was over, now she needed to give an impression that was wasn't overenthusiastic about this. Though she hadn't dared to ignore the letter, Musalis was aware that this could be a trap, so she kept her Battle Tuning Fork ready.

One caw, that meant that Musalis had come alone. It would take Musalis roughly five minuets to reach him. Those five minuets would be spent in further meditation. Every bit of inner peace would come in handy, and he wanted Musalis to see him like this. Evil people rarely meditate under a tree in such a beautiful and peaceful environment.

When finally he heard her footsteps in front of him, he broke his meditation and slowly stood. The red robe that he wore was truly more of a cloak. It had a hood that was always up, sleeves, and the upper body of the material clasped together. However unlike most robes the bottom was left open, and didn’t cover the front of the knees, nor did any material extend halfway down his calf. The Red Robed Man sounded much better than cloaked though.

Under the robe he wore normal clothes, all red of course. Even his boots were tinted red. In fact the only thing he wore that wasn’t a shade of red was a face mask he wore under his hood, blank and expressionless and white as pure snow. He was taking great lengths to hide his identity. Hiding his face from her magical sight, slouching to hide his height.

Show Time.

“Ah, Musalis, I’m glad you decided to heed my warning, and even more than you decided to come alone. Have you the will and loyalty to save the one you love?”

The forest slowly dipped into darkness, the trees like shadows that warned an impending doom. Musalis almost shivered, saved only by the fact that she was a skeleton. She sincerely hoped that she was wrong, and this wasn't a trap; and she also hoped that the person who had written the letter was wrong. Maybe this was all just a great misunderstanding. Or a joke.

The notion of this being less that very serious vanished once she saw the mystical person who had called her there this late hour. This wasn't a person who make something like this a joke, as far as she could tell. His voice told her the same thing: this was real.

But still Musalis wasn't sure if he was telling the truth, or if this was a ploy to lure her into a trap. How she could be lured further into a trap when she already was in the woods at night was beyond her, but it was a possibility. Especially considering that the stranger hadn't told her anything concrete about the 'danger' yet.

"I have will, loyalty, determination, devotion, love... you name it.", Musalis chose her words carefully, "The question here isn't what I'm willing to do for Drakol, but what you can do to convince me that I actually have to do something. Let's start with two easy questions... One, what exactly is the 'horrible danger' you wrote about? And two, why does it matter enough to you to go this far to get the message to me?"

Musalis drove strait to the point, as he expected she would. One doesn’t pussy foot around when their love is in danger. She wanted to know just who exactly was a danger to Drakol’s well being, and even better, she wanted to know just why she should trust any word of this. Trust gained is stronger than trust given, and her trust would be crucial to the plan.

He looked down at her before giving the name she already hoped. “Dahlia Ami.” He spoke, unable to suppress the entire cocky attitude that came with framing somebody. “Dahlia Ami, is a witch who plans on using Drakol for his power. A Psionicist can manipulate the thoughts of others, but a powerful one can manipulate emotions. Dahlia Ami is doing this with Drakol, you may have already noticed a change in his actions and feelings.”

He took a step forward toward her. Even now he could see it all. The moon shown down upon the clearing amongst the symphony of night that was the forest. It was his spotlight, and this clearing his stage. Musalis was his leading lady, deception the title, and not a protagonist in sight.

“For why it interests me enough to warn you like this. There is so much evil in this world, we can not hope to snuff it all out, not alone. But, I’ll be damned if I can not even lift a finger to stop the evil that is set out before me.”

Those were not his words, nor were they the first time the graced Musalis’s, whatever it is that Musalis is able to comprehend sound with. These words are the only clue given to his identity, and it was a false clue at that.

Dahlia. The stranger could have no idea exactly how deep that struck; right to the very core of the little skeletons soul. Regardless of what was reality, of what Drakol had told her; what Dahlia had said, regardless even of what she tried to tell herself; Musalis still blamed the drow woman. For almost an entire minute, Musalis calmed herself. The time was necessary to bring distance between the inner turmoil, and the events at hand. She shouldn't judge this from her personal likes or dislikes. Unfortunately, she couldn't help but let her feelings have a say in what she did.

Allured by the excuse to see Dahlia as evil, Musalis had to try hard to focus enough to at least pose remotely intelligent questions. However, questions were needed. No matter how much she wanted to harm Dahlia, Musalis still had to take Drakol into account. If she was wrong, if this was fake... hurting Dahlia would hurt Drakol too. That though sobered Musalis, brought her back from the abyss of her dark thoughts and close enough to the surface of real life to logically consider the statements of the man in red.

"You say you want to fight evil. Yet Drakol is evil himself. Why care if he is lead by Dahlia or acts on his own accord?", Musalis asked. And, facing what she dreaded to consider, but what might be reality, she added: "As for his changed feelings... he might just have fallen in love. It happens."

Musalis presented to him a challenge that he both loathed and loved at the same time. Her expressionless face was impossible to read and that made things much more difficult. He could only assume that her long pause was to control her emotions and keep a level head, that or she had fallen asleep. Her silence eventually broke, thus disproving the latter. Admittedly she had thrown him a curve ball he had not counted on.

“You don’t know much about drow culture do you?”

He said in a ploy for time though nothing untrue was implied. His mind raced with thoughts, possible escapes from the road block. He didn’t expect her to admit Drakol himself was evil. He need an answer, and he would find it to be the same answer to a different question; ‘What does she want to hear?’

“Drakol’s case is” He paused “Different. We’ve had a close eye on him for some time and had discovered something unexpected. Recently there was a ray of hope for his soul. He was actually acting like a decent person at times when around you. You took the role of his conscience, but as you no doubt noticed a stronger influence has come along. Drakol still has a chance to find a place in this world, and with him upon the thrown and you beside him, he has a chance to do great things. Together you two can unite the drow kingdom and start a movement toward peace. If the drow kingdoms are able to unite it will act as a symbol to the world.”

He impressed even himself at how easily the words popped into his mind. He would not give up on this girl with one curve ball. The show must always go on.

This red robed man got way over Musalis' head. She wasn't quite sure what he was trying to do, and to worried about Drakol to try to figure it out. Her by Drakols' side? Being his conscience? Ruling? None of those were likely to happen, and apart from the bit with her by Drakols side Musalis didn't want them to happen either. She loved Drakol the way he was, and that included him being evil.

A small voice at the back of Musalis mind noted that it also included Drakol loving Dahlia, but Musalis did her best not to listen to that voice, and responded instead.

"Look.", she said, "I don't care about kingdoms, and I'm not really sure if I should care about peace. However, I do care about Drakol. So let's just assume you have you reasons to try to help Drakol, and that for some peculiar twist of mind you believe them to be good. I won't complain if you help Drakol. That put aside, I still don't see how Dahlia ever could do such a thing to Drakol, or even want to do it. Controlling him, that is."

The words that flowed from her non existent lips were nearly enough to drive him mad, if he weren’t already there. How could somebody who claimed to be what she is, not care about peace at all. Servant and priest of Ochre, a god championing the banner of good, this was not the person who would not care at all about peace. Lives could be saved, wars could be ended and fear could be lifted, yet she didn’t care. She was starting to sound like him, or more accurate Drakol.

That’s when the true irony of the situation revealed itself. Drakol was a toxin who poisoned the mind of everyone he spent time with. Tales from the spirit world could not be so wrong as to falsely portray Musalis as a good person. She had recently aided the inmate Scott defeat a guild of assassins off a half made promise. Indeed Drakol was a man to be admired if he could influence the minds of so many people claiming to be good. However, the show had to go on and the emotion to play off of was frustration and anger.

“Not care about peace?” He said as a muttering. “How could you not care about peace? You are a good person and our move toward peace would save life, end wars, life fear, and user in untold prosperity to all of this land! Ochre is a divinity unified in the light and admired as a champion of good! How could you love Drakol so much as to not care about something your god must surely want to come of his subjects? How could you not want to bring about peace?”

That was enough of a dramatic display. His words definitely had the possibility and intention of offending the girl, yet the proper bait would call for a retraction of those words. Hopefully doubt had set in and that was all that was needed.

“I’m sorry.” He said holding his hand to his masked forehead. “Passion took over where reason should have lingered. A moment please.” After a minuet of calming himself after the performance he spoke again. “You said you can not see why Dahlia would want to do such a think. One can not see the reason behind somebody’s action until they truly know who that person is. Word of spirit is carried to me and my organization that she was once in service of the drow queen, and a damn good agent too. She was, removed, from service though for learning magic, a power greatly feared by the drow people. You wouldn’t know it by the company you keep but for a Drow to know any form of spell casting is forbidden and punishable to death. Her lust for power has not ended though. Through her charm and craft she can influence the hearts and minds of those around her, especially in men for more than obvious reason. She wants the thrown but she knows she can’t take it alone. Drakol however wields a power great enough to destroy nearly every drow in the queen’s service twice. She will use Drakol to take the crown, and then use fear of Drakol to keep the others in line. Then, when everything is settled she will kill Drakol herself, and all that fear will be passed on to Dahlia.”

(Sorry! I totally forgot about this.)

His words hurt. She had spoken quick, probably too quick, and told him that she didn't care about peace. He obvious shock at that made her realize that she had been wrong about that. When she thought about it peace did matter. She had never actually been in a war, but stories she had heard made it clear that it wasn't anything to wish for anybody. And yet... consideration for others came only secondary to her love for Drakol. With a sudden chill Musalis realized that if she had to choose between stopping a war and saving Drakol she would save Drakol. Did that made her a bad person? Musalis hoped not.

No. She shouldn't even start thinking that she might be evil; thoughts like that could spread. She was good; a priest of Ochre. Her God would understand... or would he? Musalis hadn't really been faithful to her God in the past time. She had tried to pray to him while traveling with Drakol. But more and more time had passed between each time she had called upon her God, and now she wasn't even sure if she could call herself a priest of Ochre anymore. Last time she had called for help Ochre had refused to do so. Rightly so, with her ignoring him. Since then, she hadn't prayed often even though she had promised herself to. Drakol had been on her mind instead. Was she really still as pure and good and she thought she was?

Musalis decided to think about that matter another time, and listened to the stranger telling her about Dhalia wanting to take over the drow kingdom instead. It was surprisingly detailed, which made Musalis wonder for a moment. But it sounded plausible. And just the off-hand chance this was true made Dhalia a danger to Drakol, one that Musalis couldn't ignore.

"So why me?", she asked, "You are so well-informed. I'm sure you could find a way to stop Dhalia yourself, or find others much more skilled than I am. What could I do? I'm just a priestess without real power, and even... even that power is almost gone; my God doesn't acknowledge me anymore. Rightly so.", she added silently.
