radical, servers r not free, and do u think maguas and webmaster will take cash from their pocket to let like 100 guys play maganic? thats like...100$ or more per month. also, 10 bucks isnt much per year Oo so we should help maganic evolve ^^

I don't know if you aware to the fact that a lot of "amature" on-line games have servers.
And the servers are free.
How come? cause anyone nowadays with a decent Cable/DSL connection can host games.
So people voluntere to function as servers if they have the bandwidth / want to contribute.
One thing is sure - it doesnt cost 100$ per month.

i know theres people that host for free...but hey, ive been playing in some of thoses free games (EUO, Magiknights, etc) and woah...laggy x.x

I'm not fimiliar with these games.....
But hosting a game like Maganicwars should be a brezze (I guess one person could support up to 500 (!) players if not more).

I won't go into technical deatils.
My point is that ANYONE with a decent comp, can host up to 100-500 connections.

100 maybe, dunno, im not much into it, but every game ive played that the admins actually host them, it lags x.x and we r always like 20 / 30 max

Usually the CLIENTS are the ones who are lagging. Not the server.
And in this cause the data transffer rate is REALLY low.
Shouldnt be any problem.
Trust me, I know what I'm talking about........ ;)
(I wont go into details..... ;P)

Yep that would be a nice possibility...Maybe an expansion or something similar could do it. Nowdays the gaming system does not even consider that possibility so it might be hard.

I wouldn't bet. In fact we think that we will need 1 or more dedicated servers with unlimited transfer/month and big bandwidth. If you take a look out there you can see that these specs costs more than 100$/month/server.

About the server side programming, we are going to use a Java socket server which license may cost near 800$. Apart from this, our intention is to earn some money with this as we have worked a lot on it, and will work a lot too.

About the fee of 10$/year this is mostly to keep a track of accounts and remove them when its secure time has passed to not overload the server.

Anyway we haven't decided anything yet, and anything could happen ;). But let me make you a question...how much is 10$ in a year for a game that I'm sure you will love?

thats wat im trying to say...10 bucks a year ... theres worst games that u pay 5 bucks per month *hint*runescape*hint*! but its sad that i payed for a few months -_-
